Editing Journal
In this blog, I will be explaining about how my group and I edited our media product. We used a variety of editing skills.
Lesson 1
In our first lesson, we went over the basics on how to use Adobe Premier Pro. We then imported all of our footage from the SD card to the iMac, We then created a new file on Adobe Premier Pro, next we chose the shots we wanted to use and imported them into Adobe Premier Pro. We then inserted them in order according to our storyboard so we have an idea on what it would look like. We then saved the file as 'What Lies Behind'.
Lesson 2
In this lesson, we watched the different shots that we had taken and cropped them. We then inserted them into the timeline in order. We then rendered the footage.
Lesson 3
In this lesson, we started to add effects to the shots, such as changing the brightness and contrast, changing the motion and speed. This is when we realized we needed to retake some of the shots that were taken in the park because they were too dark. Also in this lesson we adjusted the brightness of most of our shots so they were easier to see which made our film opening more visible. We made sure that our scenes started of with high key lighting and started to add in low key lighting when the atmosphere became more intense.
Lesson 4
In our fourth lesson, we learnt how to zoom in on a shot. We used this feature on a shot of 'the man in black', we did this to make him stand out, so the audience were aware that he is a main character. We then started to add the sound effects and the background music. The soundtrack that we used for our background music was a soundtrack from the horror movie 'Insidious'.
Lesson 5
In this lesson, we checked in with our teacher who gave us constructive feedback on how we could improve our film opening. The feedback given was that we should not have the title on a black screen, so instead we used one of our main shots from the film opening as the background for our title.
Lesson 6
During this lesson, we started to add the transitions, the main transition that we used was the dip to black this was because after analyzing other horror films we noticed that the most common transition used was dip to black. It also builds up tension so we thought it was the best suited transition.
We also started to add the title and the credits. We then added transitions to our title and credits to make them standout.
Lesson 7
This was our last lesson of editing, in this lesson we rendered the footage in to out. We then exported the film opening and uploaded it onto YouTube.
