Film Journal

Film Journal

In this blog I am going to talk about how we filmed our main task including what went well, what went wrong and how we solved any problems. As a group we did a lot of research and planning before we started to film our media product to make sure everything was organised. We researched the different locations we were going to use. We had quite a few different location we were thinking about using but in the end we chose the best two that were most appropriate for our story line. We filmed on three different days due to having two different locations, we did not have enough time in one day to film all the scenes and also due to some lighting problems.

Sunday 22nd January 2017
This was the first day of our filming. We filmed at Furze Platt train station as we decided to film according to our storyboard so the shots would be in order. We arrived at  the train station at around 3 pm as we thought this was a quiet time to film. We brought scripts, storyboards and a plan so we were organised in case anything went wrong. We also brought all the camera equipment that was needed, a tripod, microphone etc. Before we started filming we went through the scripts and what the actresses needed to do. We had to finish filming before sunset which was around 4:30pm because we needed to have day light or it would have been difficult to film the scenes in the dark. Everything went according to plan on this day, however the train times had been changed so to overcome this problem we had to film the shot of the train at a different time. Overall, we managed to get all of our shots that we needed from the train station.

Sunday 29th January 2017
This was the day we filmed at punt hill park. We all met at the park for 3 pm as we wanted it to start getting dark so it could add an effect to the shots and the atmosphere. Due to filming in January it meant that it was winter so it was very cold and dark. However, the weather was a good contribution to the genre of our film opening which was horror. Our first shot that was taken was the establishing shot of the park, we had to re take the shot a few times because we did not want to include any public members into the shot. Another reason we had to re take the shot was because we took it hand held at first but it did not look as professional so we did it again using a tripod.
Our next shot that was needed was having the two girls walk through the park with the man in black behind them. However, due to the lighting it was difficult to see the man in black stood behind the tree. We did not realize this till we started to move our footage on to the iMac. Therefore, we had to come back at an earlier time and re take the shots that had bad lighting.

Friday 3rd February 2017

On this day we went back to punt hill park to retake the shots that had bad lighting. It did not take long as we knew which shots we needed.
